4.31 the reputation of my Name comes up to Herodes. Martyrdom of Juan Bautista. (M 14, 1-12; Mc 6, 14-29; Lc 9, 7-9)
came to the Herodes
ears what was said about me because my Name became very well-known and said to his servants: “Este
Juan is the Baptist that I decapitated; it has resuscitated of between the dead persons, and that's why the potency acts in him ”.
It was walking disorientated Herodes
, since some of them were saying to him that Juan had resuscitated of between the dead persons; others that Elías
had appeared; others that some prophet of the ancient ones had resuscitated. Pero Herodes was saying: “A
Juan I decapitated it; who is This, of whom do I hear such things saying? ”
And he was looking for way of meeting. In effect, the same Herodes
had sent to light Juan and had put him in chains in the prison owing to Herodías
, the woman of Filipo
, his brother, since he had married her. Because Juan was saying to Herodes
it is allowed to you to have the wife of your brother ”. Herodías
was keeping it and wanted to kill him, and could not; because Herodes
, although he wanted to kill him, was afraid of the people, since it took him as a prophet. Herodes
was looking as regards Juan, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and was protecting him, and with what it heard it was walking very perplexed, and was listening to him with taste.
An opportune day came, when Herodes
on the occasion of his birthday gave a banquet to his magnates, to the tribunes and to the primates of Galilee. There entered the daughter of the same Herodías
and danced and pleased to Herodes
and to the messmates.
And the king said to the girl: “Te I
swear it, ask me for what you should want and I will give it to you. Any thing for that you will ask me I will give it to you, up to half of my kingdom ”.
The girl went out and said to his mother:
“: For what must I ask? ”
She said: “La
head of Juan the Baptist ”.
Entering hurriedly it did his request to the king, saying: “Quiero
that right now you give me on a salver the head of Juan the Baptist ”. Herodes
remained much saddened, but bearing in mind the oath and to the messmates, did not want to disregard it. And to the point it served to a satellite and ordered to bring the head of Juan. It decapitated Juan in the jail and brought his head on a salver and gave it to the girl and this one one gave it to his mother. (61)
Informed Juan's disciples, came and took the corpse of his teacher and buried him. Later they came to me and notified it to me. (61) Where does your soul Herodías live? With whom are you? And your daughter: is it with you? Your nastiness and your misfortune shakes me because you do not make me sad. I do not conceive you reformed prostitute.
